Kelvin Verde, 23, was arraigned on a murder charge Monday, Feb. 13, and a judge ordered him held without bond, the Worcester District Attorney said. He'll return to court on March 13. Police released his photos days ago and asked the public to help them track down the man who'd been on the run for weeks.

Benny Calderon, 25, was charged with murder, home invasion, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury in the killing, the prosecutor said. He pleaded not guilty at his Jan. 4 arraignment. He is being held without bond and is due back in court on March 8.

Police said Calderon and Verde forced their way into a home at 480 Burncoat Street and found Barley on the second floor. Investigators said they shot him twice — once in the leg and again in the armpit. The bullet to his armpit was the killing blow, authorities alleged.

A neighbor called 911 after they heard the gunshot.

It's unclear what led to the killing.

Luis Cotto was charged last year with accessory after the fact to murder, and he was being held on a $50,000 bond, authorities said.

Barley was a graduate of Worcester Vocational High School and had been working construction with his father before his death, his obituary said

Worcester police are still investigating Barley's death, and detectives ask anyone with information to contact them at 508-799-8651.
